TRANSPARENT KOLLYWOOD

Kollywood need tranparency in box office collections.For this ticketing system needed to be computerised. As of now roughly around 10-20% of theatres are equipped with computerised theatre booking system.Most of them are multiplex and 'A' Class theatres.

If all the theatres in tamilnadu are computerised we can easily monitor the business of Kollywood.Production companies can use this system to plan their production according to their returns.according to that they can plan their future projects.

Kollywood market is actor dominating field .Due to lack of correct boxoffice numbers actors have the top hand over the business.If one of their film get a hit status they increase the salary beyond their market .This will lead to overshooting of the budget.Some of the actors are manipulating the verdict of their film and get signed their next film.But the poor distributor will not get another film because of the loss incurred by their previous film.

If the box office collection were transparent distributor can plan to buy certain actors film based in their performance given the area wise box office collection. In Hollywood they use the box office tracking system(Rentrak comscore) is used to get analytics about a film .Every distributors ,Producers got registered in their website.So they can get update every hour about any film's theatrical ticket sales .

  In india bollywood is also tracking box office details by collecting details from distributors from each distribution region.Bollywood market (Hindi film) is very big in India. There are numerous box office websites to report box office  numbers from distributors and producers.Rentrak entered in india by making tieup with Multiplex chains.Slowly they are implementing their network.

  Next big market in india is tollywood (telugu film ) They are also concerned about their box office numbers . Their box office collections are well maintained . distributors are more transparent by disclosing show wise gross/Shares to the public.

  But Kollywood (tamil film) Lacks these transperancy .some of the producers are manipulating box office collections and spreading fake/hyped boxoffice collections to promote the film.They pay some movie buffs/industry critics to write fake box office collection or some websites share fake box office collections to their favourite stars.To show that their stars are superior but actuals are different.Some actors celebrate average /flop films as hit/superhit/block buster by conducting success meet /Party or presenting some gifts to show that their film collected more!!But reality is different.

Only in overseas, The boxoffice collections of  are kollywood is transparent thanks to Rentrak comscore(Reported countries only)
 
Kollywood  is in ICU for more than Half decade with less profitable films.On the other side Huge number of films are releasing in tamil (more than 200 flms in a calender year.95% of the films are small films based on their budget .They rarely cross one week run in theatres. Some of the small films are the only profitable films as their budget is very low as compared to their big budget films.

  Theatres in tamilnadu shrunken from 2500 odd theatres to nearly 1000  in some decades.Remaining theatres are survived because of their  plan of constructing multiplex theatres with reduced number of seats,instead of Single large theatres with 1000+ seats.

  Online piracy hitted kollwood badly.Once piracy prints are recorded & solded in VCR casettes,Then in DVDs ,Now every film/s is shrinkened into an single torrent file and also leaked online with HD print
So people stopped coming to watch movies in theatres.Only they are coming to watch big actor films which are rarely 10 in 200 films released in theatres.

  Because of the entry of digital streaming websites like amazon prime, netflix,etc The window of satellite release was reduced than normal days.Already satellite rights of the tamil films are reduced so the satellite channels using this opportunity and getting satellights+Digital rights of the film on seeing future market for digital streaming.

  Producers are now getting benefits from selling movie's theatrical rights,audio , satellite,digital,dubbing,Remake rights for different languages.Actors getting salary/signing next films even if their movie is hit or flop. but exhibitors and distributors are affected a lot in kollywood.

  Cinema bodies can comeup and can make an decision to computerise ticket system ,make transparency  in reporting of boxoffice collection by giving official data from an official website/magazine/news papers.Limiting the release of the films can be achieved by capping only 1 big film in every 45 days and only 4 small films in 2 weeks .Actors can get their salary in profit shares or can get distribution area rights .

If rentrak or anyother firm comeup and get things done like hollywood then our Kollywood also can excel in producing /delivering world class box office films with transperancy .Hail kollwood!!!
